Earth Day 2008 is a far cry from its launch in 1970. Then, Earth Day was a protest against corporate environmental misconduct and the stench of environmental pollution embraced as “the whiff of prosperity.” Today, Earth Day has become a marketing strategy to sell the ‘green’ side of everything from SUVs, to snack food, to 1-800-flowers. Ah, a few more entries in the Wind Songs hunt. Same song title - The Will of the Wind- two different takes; two different artists - both are on YouTube. The Will of the Wind by Jim Photoglo and The Will of the Wind live by Kenny Loggins are both worth a listen. Each is a beautiful piece that you will surely want to add to your positive wind music collection.
Wind power is our “really big agenda.” On a day-to-day level we push our little Earth-saving agendas. We put our recycle bins by the curb each week and pat ourselves on the back for a job well done. Yet every once in a while in our time-poor busy lives, we wonder - Does it really matter whether I wash that one sticky peanut butter jar and put it out to recycle or just toss into the trash as is?…. I’ve been on a hunt for songs and music with the beauty of wind as the theme. There are certainly a number of songs about the terrible power of wind. You know, sinking ships, blowing away dreams and that kind of thing. KiteShip Corporation founders Dave Culp, and Dean Jordan plan to build kites as large as a football field to power cargo ships and oil tankers. Unlike traditional sails which require masts and specialized rigging, the kite could be easily attached to an existing ship and moved from one vessel to another in a commercial fleet. Using a KiteShip kite along with traditional engine power, could provide fuel savings of between 15-30 percent. (more…)
